AUGUST 2005

The Sonargaon Restaurant, in London's Aldgate district, is preparing a special all-day charity banquet to raise funds for much-needed emergency medical equipment for the nearby Royal London Hospital. The hospital's A&E team were in the frontline after the recent London bombings. The event on the 17th August, organised by Tommy Miah with the support of Kaysor Ahmed of the Sonargaon, will seek to raise money for St. Bartholomew's and The Royal London Charitable Foundation. Tommy will be preparing a 25-dish all-day banquet drawing from his own extensive repertoire and award-winning dishes from The International Indian Chef of the Year Competition.
NOVEMBER 2005

ORBIS, the Flying Hospital that performs much needed eye treatment to people in developing countries will visit Bangladesh in November this year. ORBIS has been working to reduce blindness in Bangladesh since 1985 when the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital first visited Dhaka. Since then the Flying Eye Hospital has visited Bangladesh seven times to conduct sight-saving operations and share modern eye care techniques with local doctors and other eye care professionals. Tommy will be joining the ORBIS team during their visit to Chittagong. I shall be spending at least three days with the Flying Eye Hospital team and local workers starting on the 26th November. I shall see at first hand how patients are selected for surgery and also share in the sorrow and disappointment of those who are not selected,  says Tommy. Tommy s visit concludes when he hosts a VIP Dinner in honour of the Flying Hospital team local ORBIS workers.
